Ubisoft has announced that its Uplay Passport, which is set to debut in Driver: San Francisco when the game launches at the end of next month, will set gamers back 800 Microsoft Points or £7.99.
The scheme is designed to discourage gamers from purchasing trade-in copies of games by issuing a one-time use code with each box copy that grants free access to a game's multiplayer component, bonus content, and exclusive offers. Effectively, multiplayer remains free of charge for first-hand games but costs £7.99 for trade-ins.
It's the equivalent of EA's Online Pass, which launched last year and comes in at the same price point. Expect other major publishers to follow suit on this in the not-too-distant future.
