"Catherine" is Something Different

"Catherine" is beautiful to behold. Its mix of traditional anime with 3D models and it's use of TV tropes and relationship drama show that a ton of thought was put into the game.

At the same time, this isn't the type of horror we normally get in the West. "Catherine" is very Japanese, and while it's very good it's a hard game to place as it doesn't have any true competitors or peers in this generation of consoles. Perhaps the "Persona" games best convey some of the feeling, perhaps "No More Heroes," but neither nails it.

Extremely well executed and very different, "Catherine" is a rare treat.
