The Genre Of IOS Games - What Makes IOS Games For Smartphones A Must Have?

Okami is not only my pick for game of the year, but I'm going to have to re-rank my top 10 PS2 games of all time list, as this game deserves a top spot in any one's collection. Without a doubt, Metal Gear Solid 4 is one of the best games I've played on any system. After finishing it I put down the controller and knew I had just experienced something beautiful.

Incredible graphics, voice acting, and action only scratch the surface of what Makes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots something special. It took all of the earlier games to set this one up, and MGS4 takes full advantage of the fact.

The game is enjoyable for new comers, who will enjoy one of the finest stealth/action games ever made, but it is the Metal Gear Solid fans who will swoon over the story arcs and characters in this game. MGS4 is an accomplishment in gaming, and is simply not to be missed.

The Darkness takes an excellent, but little known comic-book series and turns it into one of the more original FPS games to date.

Not content with merely providing stellar production values (some of the best voice acting ever in a game). The Darkness also introduces new gameplay elements in the form of supernatural powers, demonic underlings, and the trademark giant tentacles that protrude from your body.

I admit that I was skeptical about this one, I simply thought there was no way to make a man with living-evil tentacles not look silly, but I was dead wrong. Jackie not only looked cool, and fought like a, well, man possessed, but I actually started to care about him as a character, a rare feat in a videogame. Rated: Mature

Yes, I know, what about Street Fighter 4? I agree, it is an amazing game... for the elite gamer.

The problem I have with SF4, is the exact problem Fight Night Round 4 solves. I, like many, love to play fighting games with friends. And let's be honest, arcade culture has died stateside, and while online matchmaking works great for shooters, it still stinks for fighters.

With SF4 you're either a button masher or a pro... Fight Night Round 4 takes a more deliberate, thoughtful approach to fighting. One that is both easier to learn and tougher to master.

Like a good chess game, novices get plenty of play and fun, even if they are going to lose. Such is not the case in SF4. Plus, Tyson is far more interesting than Ryu.

This is a game that has dozens of hours of gameplay. Gamers love first person shooters, and Killzone is one of the better ones to come out for a while. Despite it being set in the 'near future' Killzone has a classic WWII inspired look and feel to it. The visuals are amazing, and fighting alongside intelligent teammates is a treat. However, this game is almost 'too-good' for the PS2 and it visually slows down at times. That aside, it is the best recent shooter, and has excellent online play modes. What an amazing year for platform games. Both Jak 3 and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal are sure to please any PS2 gamer who enjoys jumping, shooting, exploring, and solving puzzles. Jak 3 edges out Ratchet and Clank sheerly based on what turned out to be a compelling story placed on top of this action packed third person game. Tony Hawk's Underground 2 continues the Bird Man's winning streak as the best action sports videogames. Even if you've never set foot on a skateboard, THUG 2 will get your heart racing in no time at all. The deep, yet accessible system of tricks is something that must be experienced. However the MTV 'Jack-Ass' style humor may not be for everyone. Last year we were all stunned as Prince of Persia won our hearts and dollars with its amazing action gameplay, engaging puzzles, and beautiful gameplay. This years version is darker, edgier, and features more combat. While it is an amazing game, and looks even better than the original, the Prince himself is a little more generic this time around. Despite the new focus on combat, there is still plenty of time-shifting puzzle solving to be had. If your PS2 gamer like the Final Fantasy games or The Lord of the Rings franchise he will love The Lord of the Rings, The Third Age. It is EA's attempt at a story driven console role playing game, and while I was a skeptic, it is a thing of beauty. It plays very similar to Final Fantasy X, but with more character customization and, of course, material from the Lord of the Rings movies. This is the LOTR role playing game we've all been waiting for, and it doesn't disappoint. Need For Speed Underground 2 will let you live out those Fast and the Furious car tuner dreams you still can't shake. This year the game allows you to wonder a huge city and complete tasks and races in any order. The racing and the graphics are smoother and prettier than ever. The only downside of Need for Speed Underground 2 is that customizing your car is so much fun, that you may forget about racing it. zSB(1,2)OK, I would actually put any of the EyeToy games on this list, but AntiGrav is the latest. The EyeToy is small camera, with built in motion sensors, that controls games by how the gamer moves his body. In AntiGrav players compete in futuristic 'boarding races, controlling the cyber-surfer on the screen by bobbing around and waving their arms. It is as much fun to watch somebody else play as it is to play yourself. All of the EyeToy games are instant hits at parties and make great gifts. The Bard's Tale is a very funny game. If your gift recipient likes videogames at all, the self deprecating humor of the Bard will have him in stitches. The odd thing is, it is also a very fun role playing game. Top Ten PS3 Games of 2007

Another close one for best value, The Eye of Judgment comes with the game, the PlayStation Eye (USB camera used for other games as well), a deck of Eye of Judgment cards, a play mat, and a stand for the PlayStation Eye.

But what is it? It is a customizable card game in the vien of Macgic the Gathering, Yu-gi Oh! or Pokemon, with one key exception, the game brings the cards to life.

Place a card in front of the PlayStation Eye and presto, a 3D version of it comes to life on screen ready to do battle with another card.

The game itself was surprisingly good, and the PS3 keeps track of all the rules, so no bickering as is so common in normal card games. The Eye of Judgment is something you must see to believe. Rated: Teen

Top Ten PS3 Games Summer 2K8

Summer has always been a mediocre season for games. Usually fall and winter see all the hot new releases, but not in 2008. This has been a record summer for gamers with a surprisingly good batch of games for the PlayStation 3.

All the games on the 2K8 top ten PS3 games of summer list have or will come out in either June, July, or August. In the case of yet to be released games, their place on the list is based on previews and general excitement for the game.

So, if you needed another excuse to stay indoors this summer, this list should be it.

© KonamiMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots alone is enough to declare this a superb summer for the PS3. To be frank, it is my favorite game thus far on the system, and one of the best I've played in years. The MGS games have always pushed the envelope, but MGS4 is sheer excellence. Every aspect of this game, from the graphics and character design to the innovative interactive cutscene cameras is so highly polished that most every other game out there looks "rushed" in comparison. Top Ten PSP Games, Round 1

I know you're thinking, "isn't it a little early to declare the top ten PSP games? It hasn't even been a year!" I agree, but there are a slew of games out there already, and it's my job, literally, to help you find the PSP games that are worth your hard earned moolah. So I've culled through the first batch of PSP games to bring you these: the top ten PSP games of round 1.

Ridge Racer was a lackluster PS2 launch title, but it has been a stellar PSP one. This arcade racer is insanely difficult to put down. I've played through my battery in a single sitting, more than once, hammering throughly the addictive World Tour mode. Ridge Racer is the game you pull out when you want to show your PSP off to you buddies. Killer graphics, bumpin' music, addictive gameplay; if you like racing games at all, Ridge Racer is a must have. - Rated: Everyone zSB(3,3)Good luck finding a copy of Lumines, this one regularly sells out. Lumines is a puzzle game that tips its hat to the granddaddy of all block games, Tetris. The game seems easy enough, navigate colored blocks to complete the puzzle. In it's simplicity is it's beauty, mesmerizing graphics and a hypnotic ambient techno soundtrack that changes with your gameplay turn this into a rhythm puzzle masterpiece. - Rated: Everyone

Warning, Metal Gear Acid is best reserved for hardcore gamers. Not that it's not a superb piece if game design. MGA simply can get... complicated at times. Solid Snake is back, as well is the Metal Gear and a very eerie set of villains. Lots of guns and sneaking around, but this time it's all done with cards. Metal Gear Acid is a very compelling turn-based card game. Instead of shooting, you play a shoot card. I think it is an amazing game, but it's not for everyone. - Rated: Mature Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix is the pinnacle of action sports entertainment. It features a very tried and true control system, loads of enormous, very detailed levels, an assortment of unlockable goodies, and all the skating goodness you can handle. The only problem is if you have Thug 2 on a console, you already have this game. Thug 2 remix is the same game as Thug, but it includes 4 PSP exclusive levels. If you already have Thug 2 for the PS2, it may be a tough call. - Rated: Teen

As I said in my review, Untold Legends is Champions of Norrath, but without the Everquest mythology. If you can overlook the story, which is easy enough to do, you'll find a gem of a action role playing game. Untold legends is a solid hack and slash dungeon crawl. The game features amazing graphics, and has the long load times to prove it. - Rated: Teen All you fans of Marble Madness, run, don't walk, and get Mercury. Mercury is an amazing puzzle-maze game in which you tilt the labyrinth in an attempt to guide your blob of mercury to a specific goal. Slick futuristic graphics and sound add to the atmosphere of this hidden gem of a game. The only problem with Mercury is the long load times, goofy menu interfaces, and a frustrating lack of autosave. If you can ignore the interface issues, the game is great. - Rated: Everyone

Tiger Woods PGA Tour is hands down, the best portable version of the franchise on a handheld system. Is it as good as it's console counterparts? Perhaps not, but it is still the best golf game you can put in your pocket, and possibly one of the best sports games on any handheld system. Tiger Woods PGA Tour delivers the same customization and analog swing system found on the consoles. - Rated: Everyone

zSB(1,2)NFL Street 2: Unleashed may be missing the outrageous cutscenes from the console versions, but that's about it. All of the moves, running on the walls, and wicked gamebreakers are still intact. The game looks great and plays smooth, but find another PSP owner to sit down with, as the real fun in NFL Street 2 is in the multiplayer. This is extreme football the way it should be done. - Rated: Everyone

Well, if you have a PSP you probably already have Spider-Man 2, the movie, on UMD. I can guarantee you that Spider-Man fans will want to complete the set with this game, and they'll be glad they did. There is simply no comparison between this game and the version on the Nintendo DS. This is free roaming, high-swinging super-hero action that'll make your head spin. Besides, this and Ape Escape are your only action choices... it's an easy call. - Rated: Teen

This list represents the cream of the PS2 videogaming crop. The way the list is organized is that each game represents the best it its genre, as well as being ranked against the other games in the list. For example, God of War was not only the best action game of the year, but it is the best PS2 game of the year. The runners up represent the next best PS2 game in the genre, but may not have made the top ten list on its own. Any of the PS2 games listed here is more than worthy of your time. With so many great games, it was a tough pick. God of War, however, claws its way to the top of the list with stellar graphics, lovely music, intense gameplay, and a compelling story. God of War is an action game for grownups. The violence, gore, and mature themes may prevent the kiddies from playing, but the rest of us were stunned by depth and attention to detail. zSB(3,3)I love Psychonauts. Originally slated to be an Xbox exclusive, Microsoft dropped the game and Majesco brought Tim Schaffer's bizarre psychic boy scout game to us all. I love it when the stars align. Psychonauts is one of the most original games on any console. It's bizarre Freudian imagery combined with postmodern humor will bring a smirk to the most cynical faces. It was a real contender for game of the year. Runner-up: Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves Smooth as silk, Soulcalibur III is the most polished and balanced fighter you have ever played. This PS2 exclusive brings new depth to the series with a surprisingly deep character creation system and a solid campaign mode. The campaign mode allows for the unlocking of countless items and artifacts to adorn your created fighter with. The new characters blend seamlessly into this beautiful game. Runner-up:Tekken 5

One of the most original games in years, Shadow of the Colossus pits you against gigantic roaming colossi as you battle to save your love. Climbing the immense colossi is an experience you will not soon forget. The art direction and sense of scale this game brings is jaw dropping. A bit slow at times, Shadow of the Colossus makes up for it in beauty and sheer elegance. If you are looking for a game to call art, Shadow of the Colossus is it. Runner-up: Frame III: The Tormented Picture in your mind how much people love Final Fantasy games, now multiply that by 10. That's how popular the Drag Quest games are in Japan. We are blessed beyond measure to have Dragon Quest VIII in English. With the same art designer as Dragon Ball, Dragon Quest VIII looks like your favorite anime come to life. Despite its humor and silliness, DQ VIII has a deep story that will suck you right in. Runner-up: Indigo Prophecy

Best driving game ever! There, I said it, and I believe it. The amount of cars, courses, and races make this a massive game. But the physics, the sound, and the Xbox 360 quality graphics push it over the top. Playing Gran Turismo 4 with the Logitech Gran Turismo force feedback steering wheel is one of the best gaming experiences out there. The game is deep and complex, it is the canonical driving simulation. Runner-up: Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition This exclusive PS2 game is the

thinking-man's shooter. Strategy is the name of the game as you advance with your troops through Morocco, Poland, and Bangladesh. This is the first version to also include vehicle combat, and the game will never be the same. Socom has been the crown jewel of PS2 online play, and Socom III is no exception; with new maps and vehicle play, the online scene is frantic and fun. Runner-up: TimeSplitters: Future Perfect

Madden has always been a hit, but this year it's better than ever. Finally, something has been done to make passing more difficult. The inclusion of the passing cone, representing the QB's field of vision adds much needed depth to Madden NFL 2006's offense. The fact that you can also take your dynasty team to the PSP and back again is a phenomenal treat, allowing you to progress faster than ever. Runner-up: NHL 2K6 zSB(1,2)I hate it when stereotypes die, but this one is done. Comicbook/movie videogames no longer suck, and 2005 was the year to prove it. King Kong is linear, but it is a thrilling ride the whole way there. With sharp graphics and the ability to play as Kong, the game is engaging and entertaining. EA Games to Get Into Music Biz

Electronic Arts and Cherry Lane Music Publishing announced that the two companies have teamed up to create Next Level Music LLC, a music publishing company that will sign established as well as emerging new artists, acquire publishing catalogs, produce original music and further develop EA's rich catalog of music. EA will promote the music through its games while Cherry Lane Music Publishing will administer the compositions and master recordings worldwide. Under the exclusive co-publishing partnership, the company will also license EA's existing music assets to commercials, films, film trailers, ring-tones and other commercial media.

While EA will continue to license music through EA TRAX, the creation of Next Level Music is a ground-breaking first in the games business. Next Level Music's role will be analogous to that of the major music publishing companies founded by the great motion picture studios during the last century.

Gamers will enjoy first-rate production values and A-list musicians while the artists will benefit from deep exposure to the core 18-34 demographic and increased promotion through unique commercial exploitation.
